Project Mobile

Challenge

Produce a realistic software prototype that takes a pre-existing, problematic process – City Utilities – and creates a simple, efficient digital alternative. This prototype is intended to be used in-field by finger / pen input the majority of the time. Create a user interface that could be easily translated across multiple mediums – web, mobile, and desktop.

Tactics

  • Innovative web 2.0 UI design/architecture
  • Unique graphical user interface layout, combining server administrator and field worker tasks into one convenient design
  • Actionscript 2.0 framework, built for and streamed across the web, providing real-time data
  • Hybrid, multi-platform software with proprietary toolsets/widgetry
  • User-Friendly UI orientation, focused heavily on “cut-and-dry” functionality

Results

The hybrid UI design compensated heavily for the intended mobile platform. Elements, tools, and widgets were leveraged from other Autodesk, Inc. applications combining the best from web application architecture to software-on-the-go. The outcome was a vivid, lifelike user-experience stylized as a contemporary software package and streamed across the web, setting a new precedence for web 2.0 and web applications in general.

“The feedback today [...] was awesome. We are now in Vegas for 2 groups tomorrow. Most of the people at the end felt that the product concept was either from Google or Apple which is a compliment.”

“We’d like to acknowledge your team’s creative and professional contribution to the Flash prototype we commissioned. You committed to an aggressive schedule and delivered on time. Within those constraints, you responded to our stakeholder feedback and iterated the visual and interactive quality by a striking amount. We received very positive feedback on the final prototype, which we believe can be directly attributed to your work. Thank you for your creative input and the agility of your response.”
