Project Olmsted
Challenge
Typically, land planning is a painstaking process, which spans several mediums, includes teams of designers/architects/engineers, and oftentimes, takes months/years to complete a given project: Olmsted takes this convoluted procedure and creates a seamless land planning experience.
Purportedly named after the father of landscape architecture Frederick Law Olmsted, Project Olmsted was designed to shorten the lifespan of land planning projects and ease the tasks/workloads of those associated.
Tactics
- Flash Software Prototype Presentation, with hybrid interactivity/self-guiding demonstration
- Simple interface aimed at establishing future software design foundations
- Comprehensive, established set of tools/widgets intended to cut land planning timeframes in half
- Groundbreaking software innovations, including real-time versioning history, as well as linear/non-linear project workflows
- Actionscript 2.0 framework, overlaid with and 2D GIS and vector/pixel data
Results
The outcome was a hybrid of proprietary coding, innovative design, and UI fundamentals that pushed the limits of Flash, and as a result, blurred the line between prototype, and what seemed to be actual software.
