Seasoned Entrepreneurial Knowledge at the Inc. 500|5000

I have returned home from Washington, D.C. after several days indoors at the Gaylord International Convention Center. My partners and I were there to celebrate the Inc. 500|5000, an annual list of the fastest-growing private companies in America. Noble Studios made the list at No. 1,836.

We spent three full days in seminars listening to an incredible inspirational speakers like Jim Collins, author of international bestseller “Good to Great.” We often quote the book about getting the right people on the bus and the wrong ones off.  Ben Rattray, the founder of Change.org, talked about social companies and their positive impact on society.

Outside of the seminars, we had a great one-on-one meeting with talented entrepreneur and self-trained social media expert Gary Vaynerchuk. We asked him when he is coming back to Reno-Tahoe and supporting events like Snowcial and Tahoe Tech Talk. It was a blast sharing some good laughs with Les McKeown, author of “Predictable Success,” about how our company visionaries aren’t just seagulls dropping poop on everyone (aka more things to do) but they are dropping fertilizer for new ideas to grow.

Many of the speaking events had insanely talented sketch artists there to provide infographic summaries of each session. An added bonus was when we crashed the Chase private party like real spies would do at the International Spy Museum and kicked butt on our race to the finish line during the James Bond scavenger hunt. Go Team Alpha!

To sum it up, we had a great time. Entrepreneurs are thought-provoking, boundary-breaking people that ooze passion for exploration and new ideas. We learned, networked, laughed, broke rules and made friends. With that much fun, we want to make the list again next year. This week we plan to meet with the management team to get the ball rolling on our company goals and objectives for 2014 as we do every year. Now it is time to drop some serious fertilizer.

Here are some areas we will be focused on in 2014:

  1. Services
  2. Culture
  3. Scalability
  4. Community
  5. Profitability

What will be your focus in 2014?
