James Ball

Senior Creative Content Writer

Following a lifelong passion for the written word, James Ball uses language to inspire, provoke thought and call people to action. As a Senior Creative Content Writer, he shepherds ideas into fully-formed, emotionally-provocative, wildly-informative final products.

James possesses the innate ability to understand user intent in relation to content development. As a result, he excels in producing digital copy in the form of advertisements, blogs, SEO page optimization and much more for a broad range of clients such as Envestnet | Yodlee, Visit Dana Point, Visit San Luis Obispo and more.

With more than 20 years in the media industry, James has been a firsthand witness to the dawn of storytelling’s digital era. Over the course of a decade, James served in various roles at the Reno Gazette-Journal, including Online Editor and Features/Entertainment Editor. During his time at the RGJ, he led a team of creative storytellers and served on the board of the Gannett Foundation, a community grant program which funds literacy initiatives in Northern Nevada. He’s interviewed President Barack Obama, the Dalai Lama and Willie Nelson, which is pretty damn cool. Most recently, he spent time as a writer and editor with a content creation agency, focused on blogs, social media and newsletter content.

A native of the South, James attended the University of Georgia. There, he earned his bachelor’s degree in English with a minor of journalism that has served him very well.

In his free time, James is a reading machine. These days, he’s a fan of dystopian, post-apocalyptic stories (who isn’t?). When he doesn’t have his nose in a story, he also enjoys gardening, playing blues rhythm guitar and spending time with his wife and two sons.

“I don’t need time. What I need is a deadline.”
